Lt. Andrew Cathcart Bogle of the 78th Highlanders was awarded the Victoria Cross for gallantry during the advance to Cawnpore. The citation reads: “For conspicuous gallantry on 29th July 1857, in the attack on Oonao, in leading the way into a loopholed house, strongly occupied by the enemy, from which a heavy
fire harassed the advance of his regiment. Captain Bogle was severely wounded in this important service.” (London Gazette 2nd September 1859) |
